Bean loves school...hates the homework...the more things change the more they stay the same.
Today started off great! I got up at my usual time of 5:20 a.m. and puttered about getting the house spruced up for the daycare babies. By 6:00 a.m. Little Man was here, Bean was up and dressing for her first day back to school and thunderstorms were rolling into our area.
Oh goody, just what I needed this morning...thunderstorms.
Thankfully my toddlers aren't afraid of storms, in fact they don't even seem to notice the noise it's just something to be talked over the top of. Later, ages 4 and up, they seem to develope the 'fears' related to storms.
As the toddlers played and made hilarious 'O' faces when the thunder rumbled, the older kids talked like they'd been given an overdose of caffeine. Nerves I guess, but knowing why they're talking non-stop and hovering inches away from my feet, didn't make it any easier to get things done.
Gary was off work today [the economy has affected construction jobs] and that was a blessing in disguise. We have a 200' driveway so on days with bad weather I like to drive the kids down to the bus so they don't have to run through the rain [etc.] but today I had one kid sleeping and didn't want to leave him in the house alone [he's terrified of storms what if he woke alone, NOPE] That means that Gary gets the privilege of driving Bean and Doc down to the schoolbus. Miracles of Miracles the bus was exactly on time! For those of you who don't have bus riders...the bus is NEVER on time the first day of school, NEVER. This year we have the same bus driver for the third year in a row and that may make the difference...not really...to many politicians and not enough common sense makes bus schedules "hinky" at best. Just to prove my point...Gary sat down at the end of the driveway waiting for the kids to get home [storms] this time the bus didn't show...I waited patiently, like I said it's not unusual to have it half an hour late the first day of school. After 45 minutes I called the transportation department and was informed that the school had not released the buses on time, they had, in fact, held the buses for about 40 minutes before allowing them to leave the school grounds. Not two minutes later and my phone rings..."Guess who"...the automated school message system was calling to inform me that my daughters' bus would be running late...no sh*t! Buses were delayed do to the weather [thunderstorms] Think they could have made the call when they made the decision to delay bus departure? Naw that would've been to easy..."let the parents sweat they'll hug their kids tighter when they see 'em tonight".
Seriously, I do appreciate that they take precautions in bad weather I just hope they're equally as cautious when the snow and ice gets here...yeah right.
As for the first day of fifth grade..."I don't want to have to go back" cries Bean [real tears]. My heart breaks for her and I can sympathize with her frustrations but she has to go back. Crazy thing is she has several friends in her class [from last year] she likes her teacher, loves her classroom [cabin]...she just hates the work [homework on day one]! Oh boy are we in trouble because it's only going to get worse. Pray for me and Bean.
I baked brownies today as a "welcome home from the first day of school" treat for Bean and Doc and that was a huge hit with everyone and they were [amazingly] still warm when Bean and Doc walked through the front door.
Bye for now...one tired mom.
