Bean is sick so I had a day without my daycare children, but the last thing a mother has is a day off when her child is sick. I did find an inhaler at Walgreens that turned out to be a Godsend.
Bean stayed home on Tuesday with a stomach ache [read constipation]. I gave her some medicine to help out with the problem and thought...School tomorrow!! That's what I get for attempting to think. By mid-morning she was sneezing ALOT, 20 or 30 times in a row. Here I go again with the thinking...I thought she was having an allergy attack. Her eyes started to water and her nose started to run [excessively]...still thinking allergies. I gotta quit the thinking thing, it's just not working for me. By Wednesday morning she had a 101 fever. Not allergies.
I met Little Man's mom at the door and told her Bean had developed a fever...she left...I then proceeded to call all of my other parents...everyone decided to error on the safe side and keep their kiddoes home. Makes my job easier, now all I have to do is cater to one sick eleven year old.
I called her doc and made her an appointment as soon as the office opened. I know, seems a bit over precautious but the her school has the 'FLU' going around already. That's about two months ahead of schedule and I wanted to make sure we treated her asap if it was the flu.
It's NOT the flu!!! Whew. It's a nasty virus and has to run it's course...lot's of fluids and rest. Fluids aren't a problem, but the rest is impossible, her head is so full of yuck that she can't lay down to sleep and sitting up just makes it drain in a never ending flow down her throat and out her nose...without ever 'unstuffing' her head. In short, she's miserable.
I stopped at my favorite pharmacy on the way home...Walgreens. You can still get the small-town personalized help there [unlike the superstores] and I don't have to walk ten miles from one end of the store to the other to find what I need. Perfect for today.
Bean's only allowed to take one type of over the counter medication, because of all of the allergy meds that she takes. So, I grabbed two bottles of that then headed to the vaporizer aisle. I have one at home but for the life of me I couldn't find it at three o'clock this morning. As I stood there I came to my senses and realized that it was silly to waist money on something I have at home.
A new product caught my eye however, VICKS VAPORIZER INHALER, no batteries, no electric, just drop a 'Vicks smelling salts' into hot water place the top on and you have an inhaler that gives off steam with the 'Vicks' smell. Perfect.
I'm looking for anything at this point to help her breathe [so she can sleep]and wiping on greasy menthol under her nose just doesn't last and it's messy.
I bought one and have to say that it's money well spent. I set it up in less then two minutes, the water eventually cools but the inhaler remains usable for up to eight hours. I gave it to Bean and showed her how to place her nose in it and take a deep breath. At first she said it didn't help [her nose was to clogged], but later in the day it was helping a fair amount and she was asking for it.
My workday is about to begin, I only have two little ones today...so far. The rest have opted out for the rest of the week...completely understandable...and it makes taking care of Bean a bit easier but I still have housework that needs to be done before they arrive so it's off the computer and into the vaccuum closet for me. Bye for now, T.
